ISTEP is coming soon!!! We got a practice/review/readying math sheet that we had to do. It was only three questions, but it wasn’t as easy as it looked. Well, I know that most of the 6th grade is going to have the testing next week on Tuesday and Wednesday. Well, at least, that’s when our class is having it. I hope I am prepared in time… Do you get any review sheets for the ISTEP coming up?

In Social Studies, we have been studying the Renaissance and one of the most famous artists in that time was Leonardo da Vinci. Also in his time, there were many artists: Michelangelo, Raphael, Giotto, Massacio and so on. In class, we are doing a project on Leonardo da Vinci, and we need to make an advertisement for one of his inventions. Megan, my partner and I are working on the project as we speak. Well, maybe not as we speak, but we are going to tomorrow, and we have also worked on it for nearly a week. I think that we have tomorrow to finish it, and then we are either presenting it on Wednesday or not. Well, are you doing any projects in Social Studies?

Humane Society
On Friday, February 12, our class went to the Humane Society for a field trip for one of our grants at school. We took a tour of the place, and saw many cats and dogs. We got to meet a lot of dogs that came out of the kennels, and we saw a room with some of the sicker animals. There was also a place that the surgery of the animals and dentistry going on with the animals. There were vets that did the surgeries and dentistry. I think that it was very sad to see some of the dogs that were not wanted in any families, or some of the dogs that were taken in from the streets. My family is thinking about getting a dog, and we might get one from the Humane Society. I also think that it is a very good organization because then, there are some dogs and cats from families that have to move, but they can’t take the pets with them, and then the Humane Society can take them in to get them a new home.
When we were there, we got to see a German Shepherd, and we also got to pet her. When we were in the dog training area, we saw a small dog, and we also got to each get one treat and then we were able to feed it to dogs in the kennels. We got to see some of the cats that were in the front of the building, but then we had to sanitize our hands. I think that this was a good experience for us as a class.

In Literature, I am reading Crispin The Cross of Lead by Avi. So far, this book is very captivating as well as interesting. I don’t want to tell you about the whole book as I’ve only read to Chapter 28, but Crispin, as you may have guessed is the main character. His mom dies in the beginning of the book and his father supposedly died in the Plague or the “Great Mortality”. When his mother dies, he has to pay a death tax, but then after he does, he won’t be able to farm the feilds or get any food from that. If you haven’t already guessed, he is a serf in the sense that we know right now. John Aycliffe, the steward is the owner of the manor land, and Lord Furnival is away, so you can pretty much guess that John is trying to take control. Well, Crispin was proclaimed a wolf’s head, and he decided to run away. Well, I don’t want to ruin the story, so that’s all I’m going to say. By the wat, Father Quinel was his closest friend as his mother had been shunned her entire life. This book includes a glossary, historical note and an author interview. Enjoy the book, and I reccomend this to reader’s of all ages. What are you reading in Literature?
